Ten staff members, including the Principal took a three hours walk around the Pakistan Chowk, Arambagh area to better understand the Cultural Heritage of Karachi, our history and the ancestry that binds the pluralistic society diaspora of Karachi. Architect Marvi Mazhar gave a short presentation as to the passion behind this heritage walk, which not only documents the heritage buildings but keeps an eye on them as they are systematically and steadily being destroyed by the builder’s mafia. The tour guide Shaheen, an amateur architectural buff guided 20 people around the area and explained everything very meticulously.
Walking through or even driving through the narrow alleys and streets of Karachi, one misses out on the rich and vibrant heritage this city has.
Buildings contributed by Hindus, Parsis, Kutchis, Memons, Bohras and early Muslim settlers in this city during the British era, have their own distinctive features and shows the present citizens of Karachi how philanthropic these communities were.
It is hoped that this walk will be offered to interested students of the school as it is imperative that our youth take up the cause of their beloved city Karachi and own it like no one has ever done before.
