To celebrate the 160 years of the school the BVS Alumni had a gathering of 600 past Virbaijeeites on Sunday 22nd December, 2019 in the school grounds. The programme started at 6:30 where Virbaijeeites registered themselves and walked around the school, met up with their friends, sat at the canteen for the nostalgic samosas and patties and took pictures at the photo booth.
At 7:30 p.m. past Virbaijeeites Mr. Yazdi Haveliwala, graduate of 1976 commenced the evening’s function by requesting all to stand for the National Anthem played by the school’s band. He then invited Mr. Rohinton Mirza graduated of 1965 to recite a short Zoroastrian prayers and then requested M. Ahmed of grade 11- D to recite from the Holy Quran.
Mr. Cyrus Khursigara class of 1981 delivered the welcome address.
Sudais Salahuddin of grade 5-A recited a wonderful poem in Urdu called USTAD-I- MOHTARRUM.
Mrs. Mehroo Khambatta a past teacher who had taught in BVS for more than 40 years was asked to come on stage and do the honors of giving away gifts and flowers to the honored teachers of the that day. She honored Mr. Maktoob Siddique who served the school for 48 years as a teacher. She gave away mementoes to Mrs. Naseha Zaib who has served the school as a teacher for 31 years and Mrs. Shahida Afaq who has taught for 29 years.
After which Justice Salahuddin Mirza class of 1950 was invited up on stage to honor and gave away gift and flowers to Mr. Akber Shah who worked as a security guard for 22 years.
Mr. Bhaimia class of 1968 did the honors of giving away gift and flowers to Mr. Fakira Manjee and Mr. Peer Muhammad Diwan class of 1963 gave away gift and flowers to Mr. Caijiton Fernandes for working as dedicated caretakers for the school.
Mrs. Diana Randeria headmistress Secondary Section and Mrs. Mehernaz Bharucha, Headmistress Cambridge Section assisted in this process.
The past teachers who were specially invited to the function; Mrs. Mehroo Khambatta, Mrs. Maya Krishanlal, Mrs. Roshan Unwala and Mrs. Frenny Chinoy, were given a bouquet by the Principal Mrs. Kermin Parakh. She also presented bouquets to Mr. Adarbad Gati class of 1944, Mr. Nauzer Kheswalla class of 1946 and Mr. Jimmy Makujina, class of 1950.
Syed Abdullah of 5-A then presented his poem in English, written by him for his English Project in school, called TOWARDS THAT BEST LIGHT.
A 40 minutes video presentation was shown to the guests where they could see the progress of the school in the last 10 years called 160 YEARS AND SURGING FORWARDS. It was greatly lauded by all present.
Then Alumnus, Dr. Muneer Amanullah class of 1981, Mr. Danny Khursigara class of 1986 and Mr. Saad Siddiqui class of 2009 reminisced about their school days and thanked the school for their support and were grateful for the foundation the school laid for their success.
The function concluded at 9:30 p.m. with the school band playing the school song and all present enjoyed a hot bowl of soup and a sumptuous dinner followed by tea, coffee and mingled with the teachers, caretaker staff and took memorable pictures.
It was an indeed memorable evening for all.
